New made-in-BC peritoneal dialysis training video: An award-winning effort
A group of BC renal nurses has received the top award for their poster presentation at the 2007 conference of the Canadian Association of Nephrology Nurses and Technologists.
The group’s poster depicted the process they went through in developing a DVD explaining the procedure for peritoneal dialysis (PD) for patients and renal care providers. The DVD contains information about the essential aspects of performing and managing PD and was produced with financial and coordination support from the BC Renal Agency.
"As far as we know, this is the first time an instructional DVD has been created as a training tool to support PD patients who have chosen to play an active role in their care," says Karen Forsberg, clinical practice educator for the PD program in Kelowna.
"The DVD is also a valuable reference tool for nurses doing bedside patient care for understanding what PD patients do in their homes every day to manage their illness," adds Heather Zadorozniak, patient care coordinator at the Royal Columbian Hospital peritoneal dialysis unit.
Copies of the DVD will be sent to all PD programs across the province in February.
