Ontario chooses BC renal network as model

The Ontario Ministry of Health is developing a renal network based on BC’s successful system of renal care. Ontario assistant deputy minister of health Ken Deane says the ministry consulted widely with that province’s renal community and considered approaches in other jurisdictions before deciding that BC’s renal network provided the best model for what it wanted to achieve.

"The BC Renal Agency is known for its integrated approach to renal disease management, which has resulted in effective early identification strategies and measurably lower rates of growth for dialysis," says Deane.

BC Renal Agency executive director, Dr. Adeera Levin has been asked by the Ontario Ministry of Health to provide advice to the Ontario renal network as it develops its operational framework and processes.
